Beginning in 1931 on radio then 1952 on television, Hockey Night In
Canada ended on the CBC at the end of this past season’s Stanley Cup.

Foster Hewitt announcing Hockey Night In Canada

Starting in the upcoming hockey season, the iconic Saturday Night
game will be available only on Rogers’ SportsNet with a $30/mo
subscription.

Apparently, in Canada, the NHL can be bought: $1billion per year over
the next eleven years.

Although it is a shame, Canada seems to be merely embracing the
American model – imagine that!! The NFL is moving more to a
subscription model with Amazon Prime airing some of the games,
viewable only if you are a Prime member.

And I imagine other sports will follow. Capitalism – spelled g-r-e-e-d –
reigns supreme.

Back in the Dark Ages of the 1960’s and ’70’s, NFL Sunday afternoon
games began at 1:00pm and were generally completed by the time the
second game began at 4:00pm.

I’m not sure when staggering players’ salaries forced increased revenue
and an hour of commercial time added to each game.

Now, the early game begins at 1:00pm and the later game begins on
Tuesday. Hockey games, I’m sure, will follow in their extended length.

To add insult to injury, the commercials not only sell laundry soap, they
preach social situations the elites want to become norms for the great
unwashed, all while they live in moated enclaves with a Europeans-only
membership rule at the Country Club.

The Goose That Laid The Golden Egg has never been more true. To me,
television – sports included – is no longer worth the time nor expense.
Nor preaching. The lead-in Local News telecast, for me, became a
casualty of the anti-Trump National Tell-Lie-Cast that followed.

Especially on ABC with its Slimy Aluminum Siding Salesman
newsreader.

I now feel completely justified in paying €100 per year for an IPTV TV
subscription, which some may say is the Napster of television. IPTV
brings me every paid service and every sports game in Canada, the US
and Great Britain, as well as all the worthless liberal television
networks.

Although I confess watching Sky News to be a part of the Africanization
of England. And it is refreshing to witness their transformation from
‘Trump is a Nazi’ to ‘Jesus, Mary and Joseph if he wasn’t right. We need
someone like him.’

Last night on Prime I watched the Russian 2024 production of the 1835
Russian masterpiece, Eugene Onegin by Alexander Pushkin, about an
aristocrat who shuns friendship and love to end up lost and lonely.
Surprisingly, 1835 Russia was not 13% black as it would have been in a
Hollywood rendition.

There are some ways, however, where the evolution of television to its
current pathetic state is a good thing. We no longer have to get up off
the couch then cross the room to change the channel.
